Pet Licensing

There is a city law in Toronto calling for a pet license. This license has the owner's name and contact information. How do I obtain a license?

To obtain your first license, you can visit the Toronto Animal Services closest to your home. There are three locations in the city of Toronto, ON. You can also visit the local Toronto Humane Society office to acquire the license. 

How do I renew a license?

The city of Toronto will send you a renewal notice with a 10-digit code number. Using this number, you can pay the fees using any method indicated in the letter. Mark the date to renew on your calendar just in case your notice does not arrive or is mislaid. If you miss your renewal date, renew it as soon as you can.

What happens if I do not renew my pet license?

There is a penalty of $500 for the first offence for not having a pet license. This fine can go up to $5000 for repeated or multiple offences. As you can see, the costs of not having a pet license can add up very quickly than paying the license fee every year with our veterinarian.
